Health care is in turmoil. There are no easy answers. In fact, many of the most serious issues aren’t even medical. They are economic, commercial, organizational, social, cultural, legal, ethical, and spiritual. |

The economics of health care are forcing us to reconsider our priorities. Scarce resources make for daunting decisions, not only in terms of research and innovation, but also with respect to patient care and public health. As a consultant in health care, I understand the landscape of medicine, the need for innovation, the limits of technology, and the constraints imposed by tradition. In an uncertain era, science must address the inevitable, and come to terms with reality. Increasingly, through coverage determinations and reimbursement decisions, third party payers are challenging the technological imperative. Innovations with marginal benefits and high costs are in doubt. Cost-effectiveness has never been a more serious concern. Due to more substantial cost sharing by workers enrolled in employer-sponsored health plans, new demands are being placed on benefits design. To contain costs, employees are being forced to make sacrifices. People are beginning to recognize the obvious comprehensive, high quality health care comes at considerable expense. I started my career over twenty years ago with a clear understanding of where we are today. As a dedicated professional, who values independence and candor, I have demonstrated remarkable clairvoyance. Technology, quality, outcomes, medical practice variations, health policy, and costs have always been central to my research. I systematically help clients sort out their issues, identify their goals, define their objectives, perform their analyses, and arrive at practical solutions for their problems. As I go about my work, I provide a perspective that is both frank and impartial. In all respects, my clients can be reassuring (see Clients and Consulting Assignments PDF).. Copyright 2008 Roger W.
